FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Jan. 30, 2008
Bloomington, IND - University Information Technology Services (UITS) Database and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist Anna Radue was recently elected to the board of directors of Indiana's premier GIS organization.
Radue will serve a three-year term on the board of the Indiana Geographic Information Council (IGIC), a nonprofit organization of GIS users, professionals, and educators recognized as the coordinating body for all geographic information in Indiana. Board members serve on committees, perform public outreach, publish articles, and give presentations related to a wide range of GIS issues. Radue also serves as co-chair of the IGIC Orthophotography Committee.
At Indiana University, Radue, who is also an IU alumna, provides GIS and remote sensing technical support to all IU campuses throughout the state. In eleven years at IU, her notable achievements include a 1999 grant from the IU Office of the Vice President for Information Technology to establish an archive of Indiana aerial photography using IU's massive data storage system. The archive has evolved into the Indiana Spatial Data Portal, which currently archives over 8 terabytes of Indiana spatial data (http://gis.iu.edu).
The IGIC is a non-profit organization bringing together Indiana GIS users, professionals, and educators to promote the use of GIS technology. Promotional efforts focus on GIS-related policy, education, funding, institutional interactions, and stewardship of geographic data and related processes. The organization's signature project, the IndianaMap, is a single statewide digital map of Indiana, and includes the most commonly used information (e.g., environmental, tax, engineering, and emergency management data) in a format that is accessible to expert GIS users and the public.
