David E. Jent, associate vice president for networks at Indiana University, has been elected to serve on the Internet2 Advisory Council after its first election.

Jent will assume a Regional Network seat of the Architecture and Operations Advisory Council for Internet2.

Jent, an expert in fiber optic network design and management, helped shape I-Light, the statewide high speed higher education network and has been instrumental in leading IU's Global Research Network Operations Center engineering team, which operates more than 10 state, national, and international research and education networks, including Internet2 and the National LambdaRail.

Earlier this year, Internet2's Governance and Nominations Committee implemented a new structure to replace the existing Internet2 Advisory Councils with four new Councils that would be more diversified, defined by operational function, and more tightly connected to the Internet2 membership, to management, and to the Internet2 Board of Trustees.

Internet2 is the foremost advanced networking consortium in the U.S. Led by the research and education community since 1996, Internet2 promotes the missions of its members by providing both leading-edge network capabilities and unique partnership opportunities that together facilitate the development, deployment and use of revolutionary Internet technologies.
