UITS publications nab Award of Excellence and Best of Category designations

Information technology writers, editors, and designers work diligently with IT engineers and specialists to create support documents, web pages, and publicity to help users find just the right information. Several of Indiana University's IT communicators recently received national award recognition for communications excellence at the 2007 Special Interest Group on University and College Computing Services (SIGUCCS) Communications Awards.

A sleek CD booklet design from the University Information Technology Services (UITS) Communications Office, aimed at new students as a part of the "NU2IT@IU - Computing & Technology Resources at IU" campaign, won the Award of Excellence in the General Service Promotional Materials category. Team members include Charles Rondot, Troy Barnes, Maria Morris, Karen Miller, Rita Pavolka, Teresa Pearson, and Scott Wilson.

Another UITS team won first place in the Best Computing Services Internal Website category for "IU's Local Support Provider (LSP) Online Community," a site that supports UITS consultants with an online hub for collaboration and information sharing. Team members include Jim Kippenbrock, Tim Ryder, Peter Uthuppuru, Shawn Vest, and LSP service team members.

In addition, the UITS course booklet "Windows End-User Security: What You Don't Know CAN Hurt You" won first place in the Best Electronic Instructional Classroom Materials category. The booklet guides users through the pitfalls of computer viruses and online security, with tips and hints for keeping computers safe. Team members include Ryan Cobine, Sandy Doell, Andy Hunsucker, Eric Kleaving, Nur Fatma Koksal, Amy Neymeyr, and Jennifer Oakes.

SIGUCCS, an auxiliary organization of the Association for Computing Machinery, provides a forum for sharing best practices in providing support, delivery, and management of information technology services to higher education institutions. The Communication Awards recognize outstanding publications and electronic text developed by college and university computing centers. For a complete list of this year's winners, visit:
