University Information Technology Services (UITS) at Indiana University welcomes Barbara Christe as a new faculty fellow in the development of its collaboration and learning environment, Oncourse CL. Christe, a faculty member at IUPUI since 1998, is associate professor and program director of Biomedical Engineering Technology at the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology.

As an Oncourse CL Faculty Fellow, Christe will create a repository of good practices for using Oncourse CL, intended to benefit faculty and students on all IU campuses. The repository will include tips, hints, and how-to documents to guide faculty and students, and to bridge technical requirements with user needs. Christe will also consult with faculty and faculty groups across IU, supporting and encouraging instructors to maximize the potential of Oncourse CL as a tool for innovation in teaching and learning.

Christe is also a University College faculty member and a member of the Faculty Colloquium for Excellence in Teaching, and in 2005 she was named an online fellow. A long-time advocate for the use of technology as a teaching tool to engage students, Christe has authored eleven online courses and written numerous articles about the application of digital tools within the learning environment.

"Professor Christe's appointment is an excellent opportunity for another faculty member to join UITS, to help explore the possibilities that our participation in the Sakai open source community affords us here at Indiana University," said Deputy CIO and Dean for IT at IUPUI Garland Elmore, referring to the ongoing development of the open source Sakai application, known at IU as Oncourse CL.

"As a member of several key faculty technology committees," said Associate Dean for Learning Technologies Anastasia Morrone, "Professor Christe brings just the right blend of knowledge, experience and skill to her role as faculty fellow for Oncourse CL."

Christe, who has served as college faculty for more than 20 years, holds a Master of Engineering degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Hartford, Connecticut, and a bachelor's degree from Marquette University.
