FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 9, 2008

The symposium, "One World One Network," to be held at University Place Conference Center, mirrors the theme "One World One Dream," from the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, and will offer an opportunity for networking experts to share technical knowledge and best practices in advanced networking.

"This conference provides an opportunity for US technologists to meet face-to-face with their counterparts from Chinese academic networks," said James Williams, director of international networking at Indiana University. "The information exchange that goes on at the CANS meetings sets the stage for US-Chinese network interaction for the next year."

IU's historic relationship with China dates back over a century and includes partnerships with many of the top Chinese universities. This symposium extends that long and productive relationship. IU President Michael McRobbie—at that time IU Vice President for Information Technology—attended the second CANS conference in Beijing for one of his earliest overseas trips on behalf of IU.

"As Indiana University continues its leadership role with the Global Research Network Operations Center and expanding collaborations with advanced networks around the world, we are honored to host the 9th Chinese-American Network Symposium in Indiana," said IU Vice President for Information Technology and CIO Brad Wheeler. "IU has a long and rich history of world engagement in many areas of scholarship, and we look to this gathering to further advanced networking frontiers with China and the region."

Indiana University is at the helm of managing several of the world's powerful, private high speed telecommunication networks for higher education, and has helped transform how universities educate students, how faculty conduct research, and how scientists collaborate within the global higher education community.
